Per The Hill, a newspaper covering Congress and all things Politics, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said sometime last week, that more than 3,000 young illegal immigrants are applying for deferred deportation every day under the administration’s new immigration policy. About 200,000 young people in the country illegally have applied to defer their deportation for at least two years and get a temporary work permit since the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began accepting applications under the new rules two months ago
As of October 10,2012, according to figures from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), immigration officials had accepted nearly 180,000 requests; scheduled nearly 160,000 appointments to submit fingerprints; and formally granted deferred action to 4,591 individuals. (Of those whose requests have been granted, USCIS did not state how many had received work permits.)
